A spin-off of the hugely popular site Stuff White People Like, Stuff Asian People Like aims to launch a discussion on the quirks of Asian American culture in an off-beat, irreverent way. Peter Nguyen, 18, of Huntington Beach, Calif., started the satirical project — an ongoing numbered list of, you guessed it, stuff Asian people like — after chatting with a friend about their observations on race. “It was pretty spontaneous,” Nguyen says of the launch. “I wanted to show people why Asians do the things they do. And for Asians, I hope that won’t feel alone.”

From the list:

#18: Handwashing the dishes

“If an Asian knows that a dish is machine-washed, they will question its integrity. They will stare at it with contempt. They will most likely take it to the restroom to rinse it off. It is only when an Asian does the dishes by hand that it can be considered clean.”

#21: Growing stuff in your own yard

“Why waste time, gas and money driving to the grocery store for some lemons for lemonade when you can plant a tree yourself and harvest the fruit of your labor? Mmm, sweet lemons of victory. And guess what? They are free!”

#25: Staring at people

“The [Asian] Stare is one of those things you need to experience for yourself to know. It makes a self-conscious victim feel weak, demoralized and provokes the ever-so-common self-questioning: Why?! Is there something on my face? Do I look weird?”
