Celebrating Marriage
KCCD hosted a press conference announcing its 10,000 Signs campaign to celebrate National Marriage Week 2008 from Feb. 10 to 16. KCCD and its partners are placing and distributing marriage education signs in English and Korean all throughout Koreatown and the greater Los Angeles and Orange County areas to promote awareness of marriage education as a key to healthy, successful and exciting marriages.??
KCCD president Hyepin Im said, "We are excited about participating in the statewide 10,000 Signs campaign in partnership with CHMC to celebrate Marriage Week 2008 with other coalitions. There are numerous studies that show that couples with marriage education have a significantly higher level of marital and sexual satisfaction than couples without. We hope that all communities will take advantage of the marriage education that is being offered by our agency and other agencies throughout California."
Jin Kim, KCCD executive director, stated, "We're grateful to all our partners who have joined in on this effort from the Council of Korean Churches of Southern California, GGM, to businesses like Pancom advertising firm and Big Rock Partners. We were especially excited to have Big Rock Partners allow us to plaster their condo building project, Summit on Sixth, with our signs. Their strategic location being on a major street in Koreatown has allowed us to reach many people."
Bennett Kim, managing principal of Big Rock Partners stated, "We are pleased to support KCCD in its efforts to work with the community. KCCD has demonstrated a history of delivering quality services and relevant information, we are proud to participate in any way we can."
"We are excited to collaborate with KCCD in Marriage Week 2008 and to promote marriage education in our community. The families in our churches definitely need such resources and our Council can be a strong partner in promoting such resources," stated the Rev, John Park, executive director of the Council of Korean Churches of Southern California Community Development Initiative Center.
"We're happy to join KCCD on this important effort. So many people have told us that ME classes has saved their marriages," said Ken Morris, founder of Relationship Skills Unlimited and a member of KCCD's Healthy Marriage Initiative Network.
"Our community is familiar with going to school to be a better parent or better driver, but we are not familiar with going to school to be a better spouse. This is a great opportunity for us to partner with KCCD in creating this awareness," stated Young Kim, president of Pancom and GGM and a KCCD Healthy Marriage Initiative Network member.
Community members and organizations can also participate in this campaign by picking up signs at KCCD's office to distribute at churches, organizations, and homes during Marriage Week 2008.
A partial list of other partner organizations in the 10,000 signs campaign include Haengjun Church, One People's Church, Irvine Baptist Church and Glory Church of Jesus Christ.
