A Night With Min Jin Lee
KACF kicks off the year with the author of Free Food for Millionaires
On Jan. 22, KACF sponsored a book reading event featuring author Min Jin Lee, who wrote the critically-acclaimed novel Free Food for Millionaires. The event, attended by 150 people, was held at the stylish Shin Choi Boutique in New York City and was KACF's kick-off event for 2008.
The evening began with a reading by Lee, followed by an animated conversation and Q-and-A with the audience. A first-time novelist, Lee shared some of her personal background which illuminated her transition from being a corporate lawyer to celebrated author. It took her 12 years to get Free Food for Millionaires published through Warner Books and she has been gratified by the positive accolades it has received. So far, it has been named one of the best books of 2007 by USA Today, National Public Radio, Publishers Weekly and many other influential media publications. The ambitious novel deals with intriguing issues of class, race and relationships and features a vast and varied cast of characters, most of them from Korean immigrant families trying to pursue the American dream.
The evening was highlighted by an auction featuring an opportunity to have lunch with Lee.
The event was co-sponsored by the Asian Women's Giving Circle.
