Details on KAC's National College Leadership Conference and Summer College Internship Program

NATIONAL COLLEGE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE (NCLC)
For college students, it is time to start planning for the summer. You should consider both the National College Leadership Conference as well as the nine-week Summer College Internship Program. The  National College Leadership Conference is now in its 28th consecutive year and is KAC's most well-established program. The 2008 NCLC will take place from June 16 to 20 in Hemet, Calif., approximately a one-hour drive east from Los Angeles.
The conference is a national event, inviting the best and brightest Korean American college students to partake in a five-day, four-night leadership development conference. Participants partake in programming designed to foster the next generation of leaders, including: workshops on leadership skills, educational panels on community issues and indoor and outdoor leadership development activities. Community leaders, panelists and special guests speak to participants about current community issues.
Students not only acquire the skills necessary to become leaders in their communities, but also have the opportunity to network with speakers and conference attendees. Participants leave the program organized, educated and empowered to go back and lead their communities. Students are encouraged to apply from all across the country. Conference participants are selected from diverse regions, interests and backgrounds.
To date, the conference has trained more than 800 young adults from more than 50 national and international (Korean and Canadian) universities. Past speakers include: John Chiang, California State Board of Equalization (who was, at the time, the highest ranking Asian American in California politics); actor Sung Kang, who was featured in "Finishing the Game" and "Live Free or Die Hard"; Paul "PK" Kim, executive director of Kollaboration; Corina Knoll of KoreAm Journal; Helie Lee, author of Still Life with Rice and In the Absence of Sun; and K.W. Lee, pioneer journalist and community activist.

SUMMER COLLEGE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM (SCIP)
The Summer College Internship Program has placements in both Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. The SCIP is a nine-week program (June 16 to August 15) that begins with the NCLC and affords students internship opportunities in media outlets such as CBS and NBC, political offices and international business conglomerates. Stipends for Washington, D.C., interns will be $2,000 per student and stipends for L.A. interns will be $500 to $1,000, plus an all-expense paid trip to Korea. (Details on the Korea trip are still in progress, but are about 90-percent finalized.)
For information on the Los Angeles internships, contact Jay Won at jay@kacla.org. For information on the Washington, D.C. internship, contact Elliot Lee at elliot@kacla.org.
