Following “The Grace Lee Project,” which trailed her search for those who share her name, filmmaker Grace Lee set out to create another documentary.

Though this time, her subjects seemed a little, well, dead.

Her latest release is “American Zombie,” a satirical documentary about high-functioning zombies living in Los Angeles and their struggles to gain acceptance in human society.“The movie is a personal horror film and is as much about poking fun at self-indulgent documentary filmmakers as it is about identity politics and the living dead,” says Lee. Check out the DVD on July 8.

We asked Lee to name some of her favorite zombie flicks of all time. Here are her picks.

“Dawn of the Dead” (2004) Synopsis: Zombies take over a suburban shopping mall.  Lee says: “Hilarious and incisive commentary on consumer culture.”

“28 Days Later” (2007) Synopsis: Brits stricken by the Rage virus overrun the UK. Lee says: “This movie scared me because it seemed totally plausible.”

“Homecoming” (2005, part of Joe Dante’s “Masters of Horror” series)Synopsis: Dead American GIs killed in Iraq come back to life so they can vote the president out of office
