Emmy-award-winning producer Dae Ho Suk orchestrates the live show “Sports Zone” from the control room.

NAME: Dae Ho Suk
AGE: 38
JOB TITLE: Sports producer
COMPANY: KABC TV-7
LOCATION: Glendale, Calif.
HOW LONG YOU’VE BEEN AT IT: 15 years in sports broadcasting, 7-1/2 years at KABC

What do you do?
I produce “Sports Zone,” a live post-game sports show that follows college football and NBA games. I organize the rundown (an outline of the show), pick and write the highlights, set up stories and book guests. During the show, I’m in the control room communicating with the director and host Rob Fukuzaki, informing them where we’re going next, whether it’s to a press conference, the locker room, or if we’ll continue the show as planned. Since the show is live, we bounce around a lot.

How did your enter this career?
I always wanted to do something in sports but didn’t know what. During an internship in the sports department at the NBC affiliate in Sacramento (KCRA), I got to go to a lot of 49ers, Raiders and Sacramento Kings games. I was hooked. I broke in as a tape editor and eventually became the weekend sports producer.

How do you find ideas?
There are many ways. We research players from all the local teams to see if there are interesting things about them that we could do stories on. We get ideas from PR firms and tips from viewers.

What are some of your most memorable moments on the job?
Interviewing Michael Jordon in my first year, the Lakers clinching the NBA championship in 2002 in New Jersey, and Super Bowl XL (Steelers vs. Seahawks).

Who are your favorite teams?
The Lakers, Dodgers and St. Louis Rams. The Showtime Lakers were awesome and that’s when I started to really follow the NBA. Growing up in the L.A. area, it was hard not be to a fan of Kareem, Magic and the rest of the team. My dad was a huge Dodgers fan so that made me a Dodgers fan.

What are some of your hobbies?
I like to golf, travel and, of course, watch sports.
