Seon Hwa Lee’s second triumph on the LPGA tour came on July 22 at the HBSC Women’s World Match Play Championship held at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle, N.Y.

Seeded No. 22 overall in a tournament field of 64 women, the 21-year-old matched up against Japan’s biggest female sports star, Ai Miyazato, in the final round. Lee came away with a victory tally of 2 and 1, which she clinched with her eight-foot birdie on the par-three 17th hole.

“I felt really great and really confident this week,” said Lee, who was presented a $500,000 check for her first-place finish. “This is my second win on tour and it means a lot to me.”

Lee, who at the age of 14 became the youngest female player to ever turn professional in Korea, advanced to the final round earlier in the day after sinking a birdie putt on the par-five 18th hole to take down No. 10 seed Mi Hyun Kim in the semifinals, for a 2-up victory.

Before her showdowns with Miyazato and Kim, Lee defeated Diana D’Alessandro (1-up), Janice Moodie (5 and 4), Laura Davies (2 and 1) and Lindsey Wright (3 and 2) in the opening rounds.

The victory also allowed the 2006 Rookie of the Year to become the first automatic qualifier for the LPGA Playoffs at the ADT Championship which will be held Nov. 15-18 at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla.
