Byung-Hyun Kim enjoyed the two finest seasons of his career as a closer with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001 and 2002.

After making stops in Boston, Colorado and Florida, he re-joined the D-Backs on Aug. 3 after being claimed on waivers. This time the club expected him to bolster their starting rotation for the tight pennant race in the National League West.

However, BK was shelled for a total of nine runs in starts against Pittsburgh and Florida on Aug. 8 and 14 while recording just eight outs. That forced the D-Backs to pull the plug on its “BK Excursion” and designate him for reassignment on Aug. 15. “He pitched a couple of games for us and didn’t do very well in either game,” said Arizona manager Bob Melvin. “The position we’re in now (first place in the National League West), we have to have better results in that spot.”

Kim ended up rejoining the Florida Marlins on Aug. 25.

“He enjoys pitching in South Florida,” manager Fredi Gonzalez told the AP. “He enjoys being around the guys here. I think it’ll be a good thing. We’ll pitch him out of the ‘pen the next couple of days and see how he feels.”
