On June 28 in Los Angeles, the Asian Pacific Community Fund (APCF) presented grant awards totaling more than $125,000 to its member agencies. APCF was founded in 1990 to establish a common vehicle through which people can donate directly to Asian and Pacific Islander and other communities in need. Most of APCF’s funding comes from individuals who make a pledge during workplace giving campaigns and donate through payroll deductions. APCF currently conducts workplace giving campaigns for employees of the City of Los Angeles, the County of Los Angeles, Kaiser Permanente, the Los Angeles Unified School District and others. Funds are then distributed to its 30 member agencies, one of which is KAFSC.

APCF’s 30 member agencies serve hundreds of thousands of clients, the majority of whom live in low-income and immigrant Asian and Pacific Islander communities. Programs and services include after-school programs, child care, disabled assistance, health care, legal services, low income housing, senior services, violence prevention and much more. For more information on APCF and its affiliate agencies, please visit www.apcf.org.

Do you work for the City or County of Los Angeles or Kaiser Permanente? Do you know someone who does? The workplace giving campaigns for these organizations are coming up and we hope you will consider a payroll deduction donation to the Asian Pacific Community Fund (APCF). Every little bit helps and whatever amount you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Would you like to set up a workplace giving campaign in your company/business or donate to APCF? If so, please contact Debra Fong at dfong@apcf.org or (213) 624-6400, ext. 2.

SUB; Celebrating Korean American History

The Korean American Family Service Center will be holding its 24th annual fundraising dinner on Sept. 27 at the Wilshire Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. This event will give us an opportunity to look back at our history and express our heartfelt appreciation to the pioneers of the Korean American community.

KAFSC is excited to celebrate this event with the Korean American community and we invite everyone to partner with us in our endeavor to strengthen the community by participating as a sponsor for our fundraising event. As a sponsor, your generosity will help us realize our vision of expanding and developing new and innovative community assistance programs.

For more information about sponsorship, individual tickets or volunteer opportunities, please contact resource development coordinator Jennifer Lee at (213) 389-6755, ext. 110, or e-mail her at jlee@kafscla.org.

The Korean American Family Service Center (KAFSC) was founded in 1983 with the name Korean Family Counseling and Legal Advice Clinic by a group of Korean American women influenced by Dr. Tai Young Lee, Korea’s first female lawyer and an activist for women’s and children’s rights. KAFSC is a nonprofit,

community-based organization whose programs and services are geared to the needs of the immigrant Korean population, especially women, children and low-income families, who are struggling emotionally, psychologically and socially in their adopted environment.
