Mix And Mingle
On July 26, KABA, along with 11 Asian American legal and professional associations, hosted the ninth annual summer associate mixer. With generous sponsorship from LexisNexis, the event was held on the pool deck of the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, with catering by the Bonaventure Brewing Company. This annual event brings together young Asian Pacific American lawyers, future lawyers, accomplished APA attorneys, APA bar presidents and other distinguished members of the legal profession for the purpose of introducing young and future lawyers to people and organizations that may help advance their legal careers.
This year, the mixer drew approximately 200 attendees. The keynote speaker was Brian A. Sun, counsel to former Los Alamos nuclear scientist Wen Ho Lee. Sun addressed the obligation that we all have as APAs to continue participating in the community and leading by example.

Summer Bash
On Aug. 2, KABA held its annual summer mixer, this time at Mok Maru Jong Suljip in Koreatown. About 100 KABA members, law students, and supporters enjoyed a wide range of draft beers, soju, cocktails, appetizers and great company. Many law students wrapping up their summers celebrated some needed downtime before the start of the fall semester. The mixer drew a larger-than-expected crowd and lasted well into the night.
Softball Champs
On Aug. 18, KABA successfully defended its softball title in the fifth annual co-ed softball tournament sponsored by the Asian Pacific American Bar Association (APABA) at the Cheviot Hills Recreation Center in West Los Angeles. Participating teams included: APABA, Japanese American Bar Association (JABA), KABA, Philippine American Bar Association, South Asian Bar Association (SABA), Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association, Asian Public Defenders, Mexican American Bar Association (MABA), and John M. Langston Bar Association.
Under the leadership of KABA board member and coach Steve Hwang, KABA handily beat SABA (20–0) and MABA (16–4) in the opening rounds before defeating JABA in the championship game (18–2). This was KABA’s fourth victory in the five-year history of the tournament, and we hope to continue the tradition in the future.
