KAFSC has entered a partnership with the County of Los Angeles’ Department of Public Social Services (DPSS) to assist potentially eligible families and individuals in applying for food stamp benefits. The Food Stamp (FS) Program is designed to promote the general welfare and to safeguard the health and well-being of the nation’s population by raising the levels of nutrition among low-income households. To alleviate hunger and malnutrition, Congress authorized the FS Program to permit low-income households to obtain a more nutritious diet through normal channels of trade by increasing their food purchasing power for all eligible households who apply for participation. KAFSC’s role is to provide personal service and individual attention in assisting participants with completing applications and obtaining documentation needed for immediate eligibility determination.

You may qualify for food stamp benefits. If you would like to make a request for food stamp assistance, please contact KAFSC at (213) 389-6755.

Important information for immigrants: You can apply for and get food stamp benefits for eligible family members, even if your family includes members who are not eligible because of their immigration status. For example, immigrant parents may apply for food stamp benefits for their U.S. citizen or qualified immigrant children, even though the parents may not be eligible for benefits. Using food stamp benefits will not affect your immigration status or the immigration status of your family. Immigration information is private and confidential.

A Focus On Nutrition

The Child Care Food Program (CCFP) is a federally funded program that plays a vital role in promoting the health and well-being of children in childcare. Our nutrition home/center program sponsors, advises, trains and monitors 80 in-home childcare providers and 40 childcare center providers to ensure that the children enrolled receive varied and nutritious meals. The program also provides partial reimbursement for the cost of food for the providers.

If you are interested in joining or learning more about CCFP at KAFSC, please contact Esther Kim, our CCFP representative, at (213) 389-6755, ext. 103 or e-mail her at ekim@kafscla.org.

Note: Our Annual CCFP Center Workshop will be held on Nov. 10. Topics will include: state regulations, child care licensing and new policies. Please mark your calendars because this is a mandatory training session for all participating centers.
