How are young Asian American poets grappling with issues of identity? Asian American poets Barbara Jane Bermeo, Tsering Wangmo Dhompa, Kathy Park Hong, Paolo Javier, David Lau, Eileen Tabios, Tan Lin and Truong Tan will read from their work.

The Chicago Korean Film Festival begins with Shin Sang-Ok’s “A Flower in Hell,” a 1958 classic from the “Golden Age” of postwar Korean filmmaking. Other standouts include “The King and the Clown,” which follows two secretly gay court jesters in the Joseon court, and the recent documentary “Our School” about third- and fourth-generation Koreans living in Japan.

The Korean martial arts spectacle “Jump” officially debuts off-Broadway. The story, which revolves around a family of expert martial artists that turn their skills on two unwitting would-be burglars, relies on physical and visual elements rather than language to convey the story.

Cultural Food New York will showcase Hispanic, Kosher and Asian foods this fall in New York City and will feature the talents of four ethnic chefs (including KA Rachel Yang) renowned in their specialty cuisine.

Each year, Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies selects 10 undergraduate students for a first-hand learning experience in American politics. Interns are placed in congressional offices, federal agencies, and non-profit organizations in the Washington area. APAICS is now accepting applications for the 2008 APAICS summer internship.
