Meet Zack Kim, yet another soul to join the ranks of YouTube fame.

Last year, the 24-year-old virtuoso uploaded a clip of himself playing the Super Mario Bros. theme song on two electric guitars simultaneously. The video received millions of views, garnering comments such as: “I’m speechless,” “Ouch, it hurts he’s so good,” and “You are a god.” He became an instant touring celebrity, appearing in newspapers and on TV shows across the nation. Australia’s Herald Sun dubbed him the “Hendrix of Muzack.”

Born in Seoul, raised in Malaysia and now studying media and communications in Australia, Kim taught himself a technique called “free hands,” which involves tapping the guitar strings with both the right and left hands. He added a second guitar after discovering the music of jazz guitarist Stanley Jordan, who popularized the two-guitar tapping technique.

Kim’s arrangements range from classical to jazz to quirky renditions of familiar tunes such as “The Simpsons” theme song. He plans to release his first EP by the end of the year and pursue music full time.

“Playing the guitar makes me feel happy and alive,” Kim says. “It’s probably the only thing I am good at.”
