Angela Park capped off the 2007 season with some well-deserved hardware. On Oct. 2, the 20-year-old was named LPGA Rookie of the Year.
Park’s six top-ten finishes, including two top-five finishes at majors — a tie for second at the U.S. Women’s Open and fifth place at the LPGA Championship — earned her more than double the points of her closest challenger, fellow South Korean In-Kyung Kim. Park is the sixth Korean to win the award — joining a list that includes Se Ri Pak, Mi Hyun Kim and Hee-Won Han — and the first native of Brazil.
“You only get one chance to win the award,” says Park. “People who have won the award are successful golfers and I thought it would be great to have my name next to those players.”
Park will receive the Louise Suggs Trophy, named in honor of the LPGA founder and World Golf Hall of Fame member, at the annual Rolex Reception in Florida this month.
