Jane Cha, executive producer of “Project Runway,” with her business partner Desiree Gruber (left) and Heidi Klum, host of the show.

Name: Jane Cha
Age: 33
City of Residence: Los Angeles and New York
Job Title: Senior Vice President
Company: Full Pictures
Time At Your Present Job: Was a founding partner of Full Picture eight years ago.

Describe what you do.

As head of the production division at Full Picture, I am the point person for television and new media projects. I executive produce Bravo’s “Project Runway” (hosted by supermodel Heidi Klum), which means during pre-production I’m working on everything from casting the designers and models, to figuring out the challenges, to recruiting top names in the fashion industry to serve on our panel of judges. During production, I live in New York and am on set pretty much every day, especially during the challenge/elimination days. And during post-production, I weigh in on edits, of which there are multiple versions for each episode.

Besides “Runway,” we just recently signed a deal with MSN to produce content — everything from segments on fashion and tech to pets and food — for its lifestyle section. We’re developing other TV projects, with partners ranging from Tyra Banks to Darren Starr and are even working on a film project set in the fashion world.

What do you find most fulfilling about your work?

There’s really never a dull moment. From the moment I wake up, I’m all about going through my newsfeeds and trying to figure out how what’s happening in the world can be captured or enhanced through any of the projects we’re developing.

How do people react when you tell them what you do?

If they’re straight guys who find out I work with supermodels, there’s the usual google-eyed reaction. And “Runway” fans always want to get the scoop out of me, but my lips are sealed!

Describe your path here.

I started out with a short public relations stint at Entertainment Tonight. Through my boss there I met Desiree Gruber who worked for Rogers & Cowan. We both wanted to do more than PR, and I always had an interest in production, so we decided to leave and start Full Picture — which now encompasses PR, production and management divisions. We were fortunate enough to have “Project Runway,” our first television series, become a huge hit.

What are some of the challenges?

We’re an independent company, so we have to push to make things happen, especially in an industry that’s dominated by so many conglomerates. But when we do make things happen, we are able to retain a large share, both creatively and financially, of what we produce. I rarely feel like a cog in a wheel — instead, I feel like I have a big say in my own destiny, and that motivates me to be proactive.
