KYCC, a member of the Asian Pacific Islander Small Business Program, held the eighth annual small business expo on Sept. 29 at the Omni Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The theme of this year’s expo was marketing, offering a number of workshops and exhibitors that specialize in marketing.

A Korean workshop on marketing basics was presented by Kathy Kim of ICC Konsulting Services. Marketing is often misunderstood by many business owners, as they equate marketing with advertising.  Marketing is the process of identifying customer wants and needs, and making the product to meet these needs. This is a complicated process, yet understanding of the process is essential to success. Many business owners understand many parts that make up marketing, but there is a need to put it all together with input from a specialist. A large number of business owners attended this workshop and left with a better understanding of marketing, as well as few applicable tools for their businesses.

The marketing workshop was one of 15 workshops offered at the Small Business expo, along with over 40 exhibitors catering to many needs of small business owners. This free event is held every year and we hope that it will be bigger and better next year.

For those in need of small business technical assistance at no cost, please contact Rick Kim at rkim@kyccla.org. KYCC is an SBA-designated women’s business center as part of the API SBP network.

Dec. 15 is the date for KYCC’s 14th annual holiday carnival. The event will feature toys for the children, carnival games and prizes, arts and crafts and holiday performances. It’s free if you are under the age of 12. This year’s carnival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Seoul International Park, located at 3250 San Marino S., Los Angeles.

Last year’s carnival drew more than 500 children from the community and we are expecting more this year. This year’s carnival is a joint event hosted by KYCC and Seoul International Park, and sponsored by the Nissan Foundation, the Gas Company and Nara Bank. There will be toy donation boxes at three Nara Bank branches in Koreatown area, so please drop off a toy if you are in the area. If you would like to volunteer or make a donation, please contact Rick Kim at rkim@kyccla.org
