KACF Awards Grants To 11 Organizations

The Korean American Community Foundation announced the selection of 11 organizations that will receive grants from the foundation this year.  KACF, a not-for-profit group based in New York, raises funds to support local social service organizations, including those that serve the needs of disadvantaged Korean and Asian Americans.

 

 

KACF awarded grants to the following groups:

 

 Korean American Association for Rehabilitation of the Disabled, which assists disabled Korean Americans become productive members of society in part by helping them find work and enroll in health insurance programs.

 Korean-American Senior Center of Flushing, which operates a daycare program for senior citizens and assists senior citizens with quality of life issues.

 Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York, Inc., which provides support services for new immigrants.

 New York Asian Women’s Center, which offers services to battered Asian women and advocates on behalf of victims of domestic violence.  The organization also operates a program that addresses the issue of human trafficking. 

 YWCA of Queens, which offers a program that helps young adults prepare for the GED and helps them explore higher education and other career opportunities.  It also offers multi-generational and cross-cultural programs in the areas of arts and culture, after-school programming for children, community service and internships for young adults and early childhood education.

 American Cancer Society, which sponsors a program that seeks to increase cancer awareness and access to cancer information, services and programs for members of the Korean community.

 Coalition of Asian Children and Families, which is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Asian children in New York City by promoting culturally competent, language appropriate and immigrant accessible services. 

 Korean-American Community Center of New York, which serves the Korean American and immigrant community through social services, education and health care education programs.

 Korean-American Senior Citizens’ Association of New Jersey, which is dedicated to improving the well-being of senior citizens and promoting programs that enrich the quality of life for senior citizens in New Jersey.

 Rainbow Center, which provides temporary shelter and assistance to women and children who seek support and professional help.  Specific services include a crisis hotline, temporary shelter, legal advocacy, peer support, counseling services, transportation assistance, job counseling and training.

 Sanctuary for Families, which provides legal services, protection and shelter for immigrants who are the victims of domestic violence and their children.

 

 

The announcement was made at an awards ceremony sponsored by Citigroup at the Citigroup building in Manhattan in mid February. In 2006, Citigroup donated $50,000 for KACF to distribute to its grantee organizations. A number of dignitaries attended the ceremony including the Deputy Consul General Kie Chun Lee with the Korean Consulate of New York; New York City Councilman John Liu, an advocate for the Korean community; Vice President and Director of Citigroup’s Global Community Programs Natalie Abatemarco; and Branch Manager of Citigroup’s 32nd Street (Koreatown) Branch Aaron Kim.
