Nothing ever seems to settle down for me. Just when things get good and I’m starting to breathe easy and not worry about the other shoe dropping, that’s when the proverbial sh*t hits the fan. It’s either hate mail regarding your column, or having the company you love working for realize that it made an error in your paycheck and now you owe it $8,000. Before, I could only imagine that happening to me.

But apparently it does happen. My company has been paying me an additional 50 bucks a day since I started working here and realized the mistake after 10 months. It couldn’t have been a worse time, considering I just moved into a new apartment and bought tickets to London.

I did a bit of research and was appalled to learn that YES, COMPANIES CAN HOLD THE EMPLOYEE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE EXTRA CASH! WTF! After a good proper freak-out, I sat through a meeting with the CFO. I kinda staggered out in a daze and realized that all the furniture I just bought had to be sent back to Ikea, and that I most likely would have to move out of my apartment. Of course, no one believes me when I tell them about my predicament.

I am happy to say that I got rid of the debt, but I have learned a very valuable lesson. ALWAYS TRIPLE-CHECK YOUR PAYCHECK!
