My grandmother, Song Hui, suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, and she has been residing in a convalescent home since the beginning of 2004. I try to see her as often as I can, but at the same time it is a hard place to visit.
This project began as a portrait series on my grandmother, but it became increasingly difficult to photograph her as she became more distant due to her illness. My grandmother, who is confined to a bed, rarely gets a chance to be outside of her room. These images represent her world and what she sees every day.
