Jason Scott Park, APEX president and director, Stephen Christopher Liu, APEX chairman and ex-officio director, Erin Martell, KHEIR development officer, Ivy Panlilio, APWC program director and Hogan Lee, APEX executive vice president of programming (from left to right), at the Holiday Toy Drive.
KHEIR celebrated the holidays by joining the Asian Professional Exchange (APEX) at the J Restaurant & Lounge in downtown Los Angeles for their annual Holiday Toy Drive Mixer on Dec. 22. KHEIR, along with the Asian Pacific Women’s Center (APWC), was honored to be a beneficiary of this years APEX toy drive! Over 200 guests attended the toy drive and hundreds of toys were donated to KHEIR. Donated toys will be placed in the children’s waiting area and in each of the community clinic pediatric exam rooms to provide a source of comfort for the KHEIR Center’s youngest patients.
APEX is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that strives to increase awareness about and to Asian Americans through community service, fellowship, charitable fundraisers, cultural events, professional networking and educational seminars. More information on APEX can be found at www.apex.org. APWC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the development of affordable housing for women and children who are survivors of domestic violence (www.apwcla.org).
The toys will also be used by the KHEIR human services department for outreach to children enrolling in the Healthy Kids or Healthy Families programs, a low-cost health insurance program for children and teens. Healthy Kids provides health, dental and vision coverage to children up to age 5 who live in Los Angeles County and who do not have insurance or qualify for any other programs. Healthy Families provides coverage through age 18 for those who are not eligible for any other programs. If you or someone you know would benefit from enrolling in Healthy Families, Healthy Kids or Medi-Cal, case managers at KHEIR’s human services department would be happy to provide a one-on-one evaluation for you. KHEIR’s human services department is one of the leading enrollers for Healthy Families in California! In addition to Healthy Families, KHEIR case managers can provide much needed assistance for limited and non-English speaking residents of the Koreatown/Mid-Wilshire area by connecting and helping them navigate through health care and public assistance networks. All case managers are bilingual in Korean and English.
Members of APEX welcome guests to the Holiday Toy Drive mixer.
