2006 NCLC participants take a break from workshops to enjoy a dinner of Korean barbecue.

Come join us this summer for KAC’s National College Leadership Conference. This year’s conference will be held June 19-23 at Mount Kare, located in San Bernardino County. For the past 26 years, NCLC has provided 50 to 60 participants with an intensive five-day schedule that includes speeches from prominent inspirational speakers and team-building activities to aid in the advancement of Korean Americans.

The internship program provides students the exciting opportunity to work with professionals in the corporate, legal, political and media sectors while gaining hands-on experience in community organizing and problem solving. The interns will be placed at one of these professional atmospheres for four days a week and spend the remaining day at KAC working on community-building projects.

Past internship sponsors included the office of Rep. Xavier Becerra, the office of former Board of Equalization John Chiang, KTLA, Fox, Samsung America and private law firms.

Welcome, Chairmen

We are pleased to announce the induction of two new chairmen to KAC. David L. Kim is the new chairman for KAC National, and Victor Sim will be chairman for the KAC-LA board of directors.

Former interns are hard at work discussing and organizing their community project.

David is no stranger to KAC, and was on the national board before his chairmanship. He is currently the chief of staff for external affairs at the United States Mint. He previously served as the director of sales development and community relations at Anheuser-Busch, Inc.

Victor has been active in KAC-LA since 2002, and previously served as vice president of membership. He is currently the chief executive officer for Solafide, Inc. Prior to joining Solafide, Victor served as a partner in the Los Angeles office of Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP.

We wish both David and Victor successful terms as chairmen to the KAC family.

Rallying Together

Community organizations hope to establish a Koreatown police station

KAC and other community organizations are rallying together for one goal: to establish a police station in Los Angeles’ Koreatown. Koreatown is currently serviced by three different LAPD divisions: Rampart, Wilshire and Hollywood. The areas of greatest concern include having one division encompass the entire Koreatown area, provide linguistically appropriate services, such as additional Korean-speaking officers on duty around the clock, and improved community-police relations. With safety being a constant concern in Koreatown, KAC believes that a new station will ensure a more secure community.
