On Oct. 20, KYCC joined forces with Kollaboration Youth and the Korean Cultural Center (KCCLA) to host Seoul Search, a youth talent show at KCCLA’s Ari Hall. Seoul Search was a night of spectacular performances consisting of vocals, dance and instrumental music. The idea behind Seoul Search was to give Korean American teens a platform to present their talents to the community. More than a hundred people gathered to watch an amazing group of teens who awed the audience as they vied for cash prizes totaling $1,500.

The first place winner, Katherine Ko, received $700 for her performance in dance. The second place winner, Infinite Crew, received $500 for its group dance performance, and the third place winner, Grace Lee, received $300 for her vocal performance. After the success of this event, KYCC is hoping to create more opportunities to spotlight the talent of Koreatown youth so keep on the lookout for future events.

An Award

In Excellence

KYCC is honored to be one of four recipients of Bank of America’s 2007 Los Angeles Neighborhood Builders Awards, part of Bank of America’s Neighborhood Excellence Initiative.

The Neighborhood Excellence Initiative recognizes outstanding organizations and individuals who contribute significantly to the health and vitality of the Los Angeles community. On Nov. 5, KYCC and other recipients were recognized at an awards reception at the Autry National Center. Leticia Aguilar, Bank of America’s Los Angeles market president, presided over the ceremonies. Award recipients gave truly inspiring speeches about the work they do and the passion that drives them.

As part of the award, KYCC will receive $200,000 in general operating support over two years while also participating in a specially-designed leadership development program. KYCC will use the monetary award to help build capacity for providing high quality childcare services, affordable housing, financial literacy programs and other economic development programs for low-income families in Koreatown.
