Typically, when Tiger Woods participates in a trophy celebration, he’s on the receiving end. On July 6, however, he presented the championship trophy to South Korean golfer K.J. Choi who shot an impressive final round of 68 to win the inaugural AT&T National, a tournament hosted by Woods himself.

Choi, 37, won by three strokes over Steve Stricker to take home the $1.08 million first prize. Playing in front of more than 37,000 people at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., Choi endured the July heat for what he calls the biggest win of his career.

“This tournament is just too big for me to really absorb right now,” Choi told reporters through an interpreter. “It’s a fantastic memory to win Tiger’s tournament. I’m very proud.”

Fourth on the PGA Tour money list, Choi beat out a strong field that featured golf greats like Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk to hoist his second trophy in only a five-week span. In June, he also won the Memorial Tournament, where he received his championship trophy from another golf legend: Jack Nicklaus.

Affectionately nicknamed “Tank” by his ever-increasing fan base, Choi says he hopes to become the first Asian-born player to win a major on the PGA Tour.
