World-renowned opera singer Dong Kyu Kim will perform at this year’s KAM fundraiser.

KAM to hold its annual fundraiser

KAM Chairman Ki Suh Park has announced that this year KAM will hold its annual fundraising dinner in the elegant setting of the California Club. The event will take place on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 6:30 p.m.

KAM hopes to raise sufficient funds to continue its operations and fulfill its mission of preserving and interpreting the history, experiences, culture and achievements of Americans of Korean ancestry. As the museum is a nonprofit organization, it is only with the assistance of generous donors that it will be able to continue as a center for cultural exchange, arts and education; a catalyst for sharing ideas and resources; and a center for promoting and celebrating the diversity of culture in this country.

Entertainment for the evening will be provided by the world-renowned opera singer Dong Kyu Kim, the first Korean to perform in major roles at the La Scala Opera in Milan. Kim has also appeared in major operatic roles in Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Tel Aviv, Stockholm and in the Deutsche Opera. A graduate of Yonsei University and Italy’s Guiseppe Verdi National Conservatory, he has become a role model for aspiring Korean opera singers and has significantly contributed to the reputation of the level of Korean performing arts in the eyes of the world.

Jae Min Chang serves as KAM’s fundraising chairman.

KAM is fortunate to have board member Jae Min Chang as its fundraising chair. Chang is chairman, publisher and CEO of the Korea Times, the largest Korean language multimedia company in the United States. Chang has been recognized by business and civic organizations for his leadership and commitment in supporting programs benefiting the Korean American community. He is on the board of directors of numerous organizations in Los Angeles.

The venue of this event, the California Club, has a rich tradition spanning over 100 years. It enjoys the reputation of being one of the finest private clubs in the world. The timeless design of its classical clubhouse, designed by Robert Farquhar, and its fine antiques, handcrafted furniture and rich, imported fabrics bespeak the substance, grace and elegance of the clubhouse. Its chef is one of the top in the country, and its wine center is widely admired.

The California Club is located at 538 South Flower Street in Los Angeles, and more information can be found at its Web site, www.californiaclub.org.
