Just three weeks after giving birth to son Kal-el, Alice Kim joined husband Nicolas Cage at the Oct. 24 premiere of his latest movie, “The Weather Man,” in New York.
What’s faster than a speeding bullet? Well, besides Nicolas Cage and Alice Kim’s journey to the altar (the couple dated for five months before tying the knot), the answer is, of course, Superman.
Now the birth name of the superhero is the namesake of the actor and former waitress’s son. Kal-el Coppola Cage was born on Oct. 3 to a father who was once set to play Superman in a Tim Burton film that fell through. An avid comic book fan, Cage is the nephew of filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola and adopted the last name of Marvel Comics character Luke Cage when he began acting.
Cage, 41, and Kim, 21, have not said why they chose the name Kal-el. Maybe because it kind of sounds like a Korean name? Or perhaps they’re hoping it might plant some superhero capabilities. Unfortunately, unless Kal-el can fly, he may just be another Korean kid unable to live up to his parents’ lofty expectations.
