"My favorite memory of working at KoreAm wasn’t tied to a particular event or interview; it was the entire process of putting out an issue of a nascent community newsmagazine. Those were the early days, when KoreAm was just starting out, and it was in tabloid format, in two-color, on newsprint. It was a far cry from the glossy magazine it is today. We had a skeleton staff, so each of us did everything, from coming up with story ideas to writing and editing them, fitting titles and captions, proofing ads, even pasting page numbers onto the corners. The night before we went to press, we would invariably be up until 3 or 4 in the morning. We were often tired, and usually broke. But the satisfaction of being part of that creative process, of holding the finished product in my hands and feeling the familiar texture of the newsprint as I pored through its pages, is one that I will never forget."
— Shenne Hahn, née Hong, KoreAm editor ’90-’92
