A look at KYCC’s new center located at 1140 Crenshaw Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Crenshaw Opens

KYCC is pleased to announce the opening of its new, state-of-the-art, children’s center located at 1140 Crenshaw Boulevard in Los Angeles. The site opens this month and will serve infants, toddlers and preschool age children through a full-day, high quality preschool program. The Center hours will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Recent research into early childhood brain development and longitudinal studies on impact of quality preschool programs have shown that children from 0 to 5 can gain lifelong benefits from participating in a quality preschool program. KYCC’s children’s centers’ current practices will promote school readiness and the social and emotional well-being of children served. Highly qualified teaching and support staff (many of whom hold advanced degrees in early childhood development), as well as a low teacher-to-child ratio, ensure that the children enrolled will achieve the best that they can. Families will also be able to access comprehensive support services in English, Spanish and Korean in areas such as parent education, information and referral, and social services.

The Crenshaw site is the second of two KYCC children’s centers to open. The first site opened in August 2004 and is located at 3300 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles (Immanuel Presbyterian Church site), and serves 36 children ages 2 to 5.

Last year’s Crossroads middle school program participants at Magic Mountain.

KYCC’s children’s centers are made possible with support from First 5 LA, W.M. Keck Foundation and The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation.

Summer School

The Crossroads middle school program will begin its summer session this June. It is for graduating fifth-graders and those who will be in seventh or eighth grade. The program hours are from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The program focuses on language arts and math skills along with life-skills development and mentoring elementary students. There is also one major field trip planned at the end of the session. Space is limited and enrollment fills up quickly. If you have further questions, please contact Dan Kim at (213) 365-7400, ext. 121.
