For me, the movie suggested a more subversive message than the trappings of the burger chain’s preservative servings. The message I got is: to be accepted in the American culture, one needs to literally run from the roots of his or her own national culture. Like, why is [Cho’s character] annoyed to be sitting in the East Asian club? Who cares?! And why is he running from the Korean girl? Since when are Korean girls not good-looking?! And then, of course, off he goes to Europe with Maria, and then they live happily ever after. The end.

But wait. Not too fast. It treads upon the all too common “Asian” stereotypes, which not only creates a lack of understanding and discord among two cultures, but also reflects a lack of imagination on Hollywood’s part. So along those lines, I would be curious as to what others in the Korean American community thought.
