The Days Of Sung Hi’s Life
You might remember Sung Hi Lee from our cover story several years back, when the former nude pinup talked about her love for modeling and her acting aspirations. Well, over the years, she has landed guest spots on TV and done some small parts in movies.

Sung Hi Lee (left) was cast as “Sophie” on “Days of Our Lives,” playing Bryan Datillo’s love interest.

How are you adjusting to the soap lifestyle?

I am learning. You get thrown into the pool, you have to learn how to swim. It’s a good thing for me because my personality isn’t one who likes to dip her toes into things; I like to jump right in.

What has surprised you most about the soap opera world?

I’m used to doing comedy or drama, and you take 10 days to shoot a full episode. Here we are doing an episode a day. You get one, maybe two takes, and everyone gets it right away. I’m so lucky to be able to learn all of this, and because of the pace, you get all this direction. I had my first 30-page day last week, and I thought I was going to crash and burn. I’m just not used to it. But luckily, I really love my character, and the scenes are really fun, and they went great. Boy was I nervous.

So, you’re on daytime now, where everyone seems to be hopping in and out of bed naked. Have they already thrown you into some love scenes?

(Laughs) Nope, not even a kiss! I get to wear the most fabulous clothes, and Sophie has a really cute style of dress, but so far the clothes have stayed on.

So let’s talk about the clothes. No revealing outfits or bathing suits yet? Normally soaps who bring on models like to show off their bodies.

Nothing like that. Richard, our costume designer, is amazing. He gives me a bunch of stuff to choose from. He really wants me to feel comfortable with my character. Usually the first thing I try on that he grabs for me is the one that I keep. I do have a say in what I wear, but I don’t need to have a say.

What did they tell you about your character?

I’m the new love interest for Bryan Dattilo (who plays Lucas). Of course, his character was just about to be married last month and that was broken up, so I was brought in to shake things up in his life.

There was no back story for my character. Sophie was originally written as a recurring character who would be on for six to eight episodes and then be gone. But for whatever reasons, they liked Sophie, and hopefully liked me, and asked me to stay on.

Do you have your own dressing room?

I do. This is the first series regular stuff [I’ve done], and the first time I actually have a dressing room. Now I have a plaque with my name on it. I don’t know where my story is going, and you can’t count your chickens, so I am not decorating it until I know my character is staying for the long haul. But I hope to fill it up soon!
