Field Trip Knowledge

Readiness for School program helps school transition

The Readiness for School program is designed to help Koreatown parents and their children make a smooth transition from attending a preschool to a public elementary school. This program serves parents and their children who attend Korean-operated preschools. For this part of the program, the children experience educational and adventurous field trips to broaden their horizons outside of Koreatown. This year, the children attended Underwood Family Farms to pick pumpkins from a patch.

Parenting seminars offer valuable information

KAFSC held parenting seminars to educate parents in the Korean community about how to raise their children so that they are physically and emotionally healthy. Each seminar covered a variety of topics that are important to youth growth, and offered essential information that can help parents as they experience the formative years of their children. Through these seminars, parents can now utilize new insights and tools they have gained to enhance their parenting skills.

Some of the topics covered:

• Adolescent Development and Their Physical Changes

• How to Develop Closer Relationships with Your Youth and How to Communicate with Effectiveness and Building Self-Esteem

• How to Figure out Your Child’s Personality

• Alcohol, Substance Abuse and Other Peer Pressures
