If there was any doubt Anthony Kim is golf’s Next Great One, it was shattered on Sept. 21.
At Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Ky., the 23-year-old Los Angeles native played a crucial role in the United States’ resounding victory over Europe in the biennial Ryder Cup, ending Team America’s streak of three successive losses.
Kim squashed the record-holding Sergio Garcia 5&4 in the top encounter before teammate Jim Furyk secured the decisive point with a 2&1 victory over Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez. The U.S. finished with a 161?2 - 111?2 triumph.
“I wanted to come out here and give the fans what they wanted to see,” Kim told Reuters.
“I got chills up my spine the whole day and I’m loving every minute of it. I wouldn’t trade this for $10 million.”
