Name: Jenny Yu

Age: 32

Job title: Supervising technical director

What do you do?

I am responsible for the technical directors here at South Park.

What are the perks of your job?

The show’s content is always new and challenging so you never get bored.

What are the challenges?

Working around the clock to make sure it all gets done.

What’s your work environment like?

Fun, intense and entertaining.

What’s your favorite workday pick-me-up?

Barley milk tea and Emergen-C packets.

Who’s your favorite character?

The ice-cream-pooping taco.

How do people respond when you tell them what you do?

Raised eyebrows. Or a blank stare.

Name: Wonnie Ro

Age: 37

Job title: Lead technical director

What do you do?

Technical directors work on modeling, lighting, layouts and effect animation to create shots for a scene. We receive 2D artwork from the art department and we make them 3D. The shots then go to the animators, who give life to the scenes.

What are the perks of your job?

We work hard and party hard. Also, we work for six months and then we’re off for six months. Because of our unique schedule, I have taken advantage of many other opportunities, such as starting my own design business.

What are the challenges?

Since we air new episodes on Wednesdays, we have to stay up all night on Tuesdays to get everything done.

What are you most proud of?

The episodes that send meaningful messages about current issues such as politics and racism.

Who’s your favorite character?

Butters. He’s so innocent on the outside, but very twisted on the inside.

How do people respond when you tell them what you do?

They say, “Oh my God, really? I love that show.”

Name: Lesley Hur

Age: 25

Job title: Animator

What do you do?

I make sure the characters are believable in the world they exist in, and that the personalities of the characters show through.

Describe your mental process.

I pretend I’m the character and say the lines aloud while moving my hands to make sure the gestures are natural. I always think about the principles of animation, such as exaggeration, anticipation and timing, and how these principles should be used in the particular scene.

What’s your work environment like?

When it’s laidback, it’s pretty fun. Sometimes we manage to squeeze in video game tournaments.

What are some other perks?

If we have a really late night before an all-nighter, the studio offers a hotel room. They always stock up on caffeine. Sometimes we get the ice cream cart, and I get my nice sundae.
