On April 16, KAC-WA and the World Affairs Council at Seattle University co-sponsored a talk featuring Christopher Hill, assistant secretary of state for East Asian and Pacific affairs. As the United States representative in the six-party denuclearization talks with North Korea, Ambassador Hill discussed his work and how the talks are a critically important step toward denuclearizing North Korea for the safety and stability of the region.

He stated that through the six-party talks, as well as bilateral discussions with North Korea, the United States hopes to achieve its goal or arrive at a resolution that convinces North Korea to give up and permanently dismantle its nuclear program. Ambassador Hill expressed optimism for the new administration in South Korea and hopes that with further meetings, North Korea will understand and accept the terms of the negotiations being presented. At the close of the program, Ambassador Hill took questions from the presenter and audience, and further addressed issues of human rights, Russia’s role and involvement, his relationship with North Korean officials, and the United States’ position on the talks.
