Photographs by Charlie Cho

During the past two years, I have created an eclectic range of eerie, surreal and almost unrealistic photographs, all captured during the night.

In some of the photographs, you will see a glimpse of my body.

In others, you won’t see me at all. Every separate light entity that you see is a different position that I am in; I am constantly moving throughout the scene to create my own subject matter. The camera will only pick up the light source, which is why I am completely invisible in some of the photographs. I do not digitally take myself out of the picture.

Sometimes I construct a specific shape with the light, which I like to refer to as “light brushes.” Often, I will use light in conjunction with fire as seen in some of my images.

My intimate relationship with light has evolved through many experiments that involve hours spent testing and shooting during the night. Other than minor exposure adjustments, there is no computer process involved in the creation of this art. Exposure times for a photograph can last anywhere from five minutes to an hour. The end result is a harmonious blend of light, color and energy illuminating the subject matter in my photographs.
