Stir-Friday Night! one of the nation’s premier Asian American sketch comedy/improv troupes, brings you its 12th revue, “Buddha Call.” Directed by Mary Scruggs, the show explores the troupe’s hopes, fears and penchant to come up with a catchy tune.

Part of a generation that gave rise to Seoul’s bourgeoning art scene in the ’90s, Choi Jeong Hwa blurs the boundaries between art, graphic design, industrial design and architecture. In the exhibition “Truth: Choi Jeong Hwa,” Choi transforms a gallery space and lounge/bar to collapse the rarefied space of art and the public space of everyday life.

“One Way or Another: Asian American Art Now,” a traveling exhibition organized by the Asia Society, brings together 17 iconoclastic artists from across the country. Through painting, sculpture, video and installation art, the exhibition suggests new meanings for “the Asian American experience.”

The exhibition will be held at the Japanese American National Museum, 369 East First St.. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for students with ID, $4 for children ages 6 to 17 and free for children under 5. For more information, visit www.janm.org.

The Loft Literary Center presents a reading with authors Lee Herrick, Sun Yung Shin and Brian Thao Worra as part of its Asian American poetry reading series. The event will celebrate the authors’ 2007 releases: Herrick’s This Many Miles from Desire, Shin’s Skirt Full of Black and Thao Worra’s On the Other Side of the Eye. Each author will be signing copies of their books after the reading.

The event begins at 7 p.m. at the Loft Literary Center, 1011 Washington Avenue South, Ste. 200. Admission is free. For details, visit www.loft.org.

 

 

SAN DIEGO

 

JAN. 25–27

 The University of California, San Diego, presents “Korea, North and South: A Cinematic Perspective,” the first North American Korean film festival dedicated to both Republic of Korea (ROK) and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) contemporary films. This three-day event features five ROK and five DPRK feature films, along with a documentary film about Korean immigrants in the former Soviet Union. The festival will also include lectures and panel discussions led by distinguished directors, producers and film scholars.
