The pranksters of “The Real Wedding Crashers”: Desi Lydic, Steve Byrne, Gareth Reynolds, Ben Gleib and Catherine Reitman (left to right).

While most brides and grooms fret about having their big day go off without a hitch, couples who sign up for NBC’s “The Real Wedding Crashers,” (a reality spin-off of the hit movie “Wedding Crashers”) actually request that comedians like Steve Byrne punk their guests. (On a recent episode, Byrne played a minister who answers his cell phone during the couple’s vows.)

“Everybody really, really enjoyed it,” said Byrne, 32, of the first few episodes he’s filmed. “We’d stick around and meet all the friends and family and they would say, ‘This is so something [the couple] would do!’”

For Byrne, whose background is in stand-up comedy, doing the show with mostly improv comedians was a nerve-wracking experience.

“I B.S.’d my way through it,” said Byrne, who wrote and memorized lines for himself rather than winging it. Still, Byrne loved playing out the ridiculous scenarios in the scripts. “I think we all have this mischievous side to us.”
