In February, KCCD President Hyepin Im participated in Freddie Mac’s press conference announcing the launch of CreditSmart Asian, a credit and homeownership guidebook available to the community in the languages of Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and English. KCCD is pleased to announce its partnership with Freddie Mac in the development of the CreditSmart Asian curriculum, which provides various helpful information such as advice on how to build and maintain good credit and protect investments, as well as steps to buying a home.

Im stated, “With Korean American homeownership being one of the lowest in the country, these guidebooks are a resource we have long needed in our communities and we are very pleased to be part of this exciting program.”

Guidebooks are available to community-based organizations to utilize in educating consumers. Other community partners who contributed to the development of CreditSmart Asian include Asian Americans for Equality, Boat People SOS, Chhaya CDC, Filipinos for Affirmative Action, National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development, National Congress of Vietnamese Americans and National Korean American Service & Education Consortium, Inc.

 

 

 

 

 

We’ve Got The Faith

 

KCCD was honored at the 12th annual Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week Awards dinner and celebration as the Faith Partner of the Year. The award was presented by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa, U.S. Small Business Administration and the Los Angeles Minority Business Opportunity Center. Villaraigosa presented the opening remarks for the elegant dinner occasion, held at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles on Feb. 2.

KCCD was selected by the MED Week Awards selection committee as a distinguished leader exemplifying this year’s MED Week theme: “The Next Level: Destination … Wealth.” KCCD was proud to be recognized for its efforts in the community, providing asset building, small business, homeownership and workforce programs to the Asian American community.

 

 

 

 

 

Looking For Leaders 

 

KCCD is pleased to announce openings for its Vista Fellowship Program. KCCD VISTAs participate in a year-long leadership and service program. Candidates receive extensive leadership training and highly valued exposure to the non-profit industry and associated partners, including elected officials, community leaders and stakeholders. Past KCCD VISTAs have gone on to secure careers with highly competitive non-profit and government sector employers, including organizations such as the California Endowment and United Way.

KCCD VISTAs are needed in the following areas: youth workforce program, marriage and family strengthening, homebuyer education and financial literacy, grantwriting, small business development, volunteer development, public relations and communications, health care research, homelessness, web design, IT and research analysis.
