The Barefooted Young (1964)

3 p.m., Dec. 13

Directed by Kim Ki-Deok

One day, gangster Cho Du-su (Shing Seong-il) sees Yoanna (Um Aing-ran) being harassed by hoodlums and comes to her aid. Yoanna, who is a college student and the daughter of a diplomat, is used to a life of luxury, whereas Du-su is an orphan who spends his days doing grunt work for an organized crime group. Despite their vastly different backgrounds, they share a mutual attraction for each other that develops into something beyond their expectations when family and class attempt to tear the two apart.

Love Me Once Again (1968)

7 p.m., Dec. 20

Directed by Jeong So-Young

Hye-yeong (Moon Hee) falls in love with Sin-ho (Shin Young-kyun), not knowing that he is a married man. She dreams of marrying him until she discovers the facts — only after his wife (Jeon Kye-hyeon) and child arrive in Seoul. Hye-yeong leaves Sin-ho and gives birth to his son Yeong-sin (Kim Jeong-hun), whom she raises by herself. But eight years later, she comes to Sin-ho and asks him to raise Yeong-sin in order to ensure a better future for their son. The boy is unable to adapt to his new environment and constantly asks for his mother. Feeling lonely, Yeong-sin sets out to find Hye-yeong but gets lost on the way, and his new family searches for him.

Chilsu and Mansu (1988)

7 p.m., Dec. 27

Directed by Park Kwang-Su

Park Kwang-Su’s feature debut depicts the conflicting attitudes felt by Korean youth regarding their society and future. It begins as a romantic comedy about an optimistic teenager who loves a fast-food waitress and dreams of emigrating to Miami. When Chilsu’s life goes sour, he takes up with Mansu, a disillusioned artist who sells him on a get-rich-quick scheme, and the film turns dark as it contrasts two very different views of Korea and considers the possibility of reconciliation.
