The Korean American Professionals Society (KAPS) was founded in 1993 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting friendship and understanding among Korean Americans, and to improving the social and professional well-being of Korean Americans in the greater Seattle area

We’re already halfway through the year and soon we’ll be hosting our 12th annual KAPS leadership awards gala in October. Last year’s focus was connecting communities by building an online portal to Korean America. We’ve dedicated ourselves to creating an environment that provides an easy exchange of questions and answers pertaining to the Korean American community. Our goal has never been to re-create information that’s already available, but instead organize and translate this information so that it’s easier to find and share with others. As you can imagine it has been a difficult, but rewarding task. For now, we are focusing our energy on the northwest region, mainly the Seattle-Tacoma area. It’s a work in progress and we are excited to announce new developments to this project at the upcoming gala.

The many e-mails we’ve received so far from those that are interested in being a part of our network have been very encouraging. As an all-volunteer group, your support is needed very much and greatly appreciated. If you have always wanted to get involved in some way, now is a best time. Not only do we need your leadership and abilities for our online project, but KAPS has many other programs that need additional talent. Develop your leadership skills, participate in the community and strengthen your network and your resume by getting involved. We have two major events coming soon:

Annual KAPS Leadership Awards Gala

This year’s KAPS gala has been set for October. The gala is a signature KAPS event hosted by the next generation of the Korean American Community. It is a time when we recognize and award outstanding individuals in our community that best represent themselves as Asian American leaders in the fields of business, arts, and community service. We will also hand out the Rocky Kim Pioneer award to one outstanding community leader and college scholarships to local high school students. The gala committee is currently in the planning stages now. Get involved and contact us at gala@seattlekaps.org.
