Walking To Build Bridges
KAC-LA will hold its first walk-a-thon
The Korean American Coalition-Los Angeles is launching its first annual Walking to Build Bridges Walk-a-thon. In commemoration of the 15th anniversary of the Los Angeles Riots and in celebration of The Korea Society’s 50 years of dedicated community service, KAC is holding a walk-a-thon to build awareness, forge bridges between communities and raise funds for its 4.29 Center.
The walk-a-thon will kick off KAC’s events for the 4.29 week on Saturday, April 21, and end with KAC’s Annual Gala Dinner honoring Bridge Builders on April 26. The 1.4 mile walk will begin at the heart of Koreatown at the corner of Wilshire and Harvard boulevards, and end at MacArthur Park.
KAC would like to invite local businesses, national companies, churches, students, the elderly, other community-based organizations and anyone who shares the same passion for building bridges between members of diverse cultures to walk alongside us. This will be a historical moment for Korean Americans to take a leadership stance in the community and proudly send a message that we are united in our efforts to build bridges and raise awareness.
Proceeds from the event will be directed to the 4.29 Center, a dispute resolution and mediation center based at the KAC. One of a dozen local dispute resolution sites, the 4.29 Center has a unique specialization; it mediates inter-cultural disputes to foster non-violent, peaceful resolution of conflicts. The 4.29 Center offers members of our community the opportunity to obtain affordable mediation services and is a great resource for those with language barriers.
KAC strongly encourages your participation. Come join us so that we may all walk together on this momentous occasion. Let’s not just talk the talk, but let’s walk the walk and write the next chapter of Korean American history together by building bridges.

Intern And Learn
NCLC and internship applications available online
Summer is just around the corner, and college students still have time to apply for KAC’s annual National College Leadership Conference and summer internship program. The summer internship provides an exciting opportunity for KA college students to work with professionals in the corporate, legal, political and media sectors while gaining hands-on experience in community organizing and problem solving. The interns will be placed in a professional atmosphere for four days a week and spend the remaining day at KAC working on community-building projects. The 12 interns selected for this nine-week program will each receive a $1,000 stipend. Past internship sponsors include the office of Rep. Xavier Becerra, office of Board of Equalization Chairman John Chiang, KTLA, FOX, Samsung America, and private law firms.
