Campaign to raise awareness about domestic violence is launched
The Domestic Violence Prevention Program has launched its annual media campaign with two 30-second public service announcements (PSA) and newspaper ads in two local Korean newspapers, Korea Times and Korea Daily. Both PSAs, one focusing on the consequences of being a batterer and the other spotlighting the painful experiences for children who grow up with domestic violence, were funded by the California Department of Health Services, Maternal and Child Health Branch. Our goal in telecasting the two PSAs and printing an ad in the Korea Times and Korea Daily is to educate the community about the characteristics of an abusive relationship. We also need to emphasize that it is a “moral turpitude” crime, which is the class of crimes that can result in deportation depending on your immigration status. Hopefully the advertisements will also shed light on the damaging affects abuse has on the family, especially the children involved.
We want to thank the five students at Young Ye Nursery School who participated in the PSA.
Please contact our agency if you or someone you know may be a batterer or victim of an abusive relationship. Services are available in English and Korean. Call (213) 389-6755.
