Children have fun while their parents attend a seminar about the kindergarten enrollment process.
Kindergarten Workshop
The Readiness for School Program brought together parents who wanted to learn about the kindergarten enrollment process. Sandra Kim, coordinator of the Los Angeles Unified School District Dual Language Department, spoke to parents about what they need to know before enrolling their children in school, how the public school system operates and the kindergarten curriculum. Most parents who attended were sending their children to school for the first time, and others were recent immigrants who had no previous knowledge about the California school system. Kindergarten teacher Joanne Lee from Third Street Elementary School explained the kindergarten curriculum in detail and discussed what their children should know prior to attending kindergarten. She also encouraged parents to be active in their children’s school. Children colored and made cookies and colorful wreaths while listening to Christmas carols during the seminar.
First Annual VOVO Banquet
KAFSC introduced the VOVO program a year ago as the agency’s first marriage program. VOVO celebrated its first annual banquet at the Sky Hall in the Aroma Center located in Los Angeles’ Koreatown. Recreational Instructor Sang Ik Park led several games to encourage the attendees to mingle and get acquainted. An elegant dinner preceded the games, along with a message from the keynote speaker, Dr. Kyoon Hee Chung.
