This is a first:
a Korean American renowned for eating dogs. Sonya Thomas, 37, won second place at the annual Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest on New York’s Coney Island, coming behind Takeru Kobayashi of Japan, who consumed 49 frankfurters and buns. By devouring 37 hot dogs in less than 12 minutes, Thomas did set a new American record. Afterward, she told reporters, “My stomach doesn’t hurt, but my jaw is tired. Maybe tonight, I’m going to eat a light dinner, a kind of salad.”
