What’s Goin’ On
Recent happenings at the Korean American Museum

These are very busy days for the staff at KAM, as they are involved in a number of activities designed to preserve and interpret the history, experiences, culture and achievements of Americans of Korean ancestry. The museum is working to become a center for cultural exchange, and hopes to be known as a place where resources on art and education are shared and diversity is celebrated.

Some of our current and past activities:

• The “Scene ‘05” exhibit, featuring the works of eight Los Angeles-based Korean American artists. This exhibit, which will continue until Aug. 18, continues to draw visitors and tours.

• On June 8, Ayako Sakai of Japan American TV interviewed Dr. Kay Song, KAM board member, and Yujin Lim, KAM program coordinator. Sakai was working on a documentary about Koreatown, its organizations and the relationship between the different generations. This documentary aired July 9 on KCSI.

• On June 25, a group of students from Pepperdine University toured the museum.

• On June 30, students from the Y Academy toured the “Scene ‘05” exhibit.

• On July 6, a group of students from the LA Leadership Academy visited as part of a leadership/cultural exchange program. They participated in an artwork critique workshop, saw a PowerPoint presentation of the Los Angeles Koreatown exhibit and learned about the history of Koreatown and the events that shaped this community.

Fifteen students on a cultural exchange program from Mississippi tour KAM.

If any of you are interested in serving as a volunteer for KAM, please contact Ms. Yujin Lim at (213) 388-4229.
