KHEIR volunteers taking a well-deserved break after a day full of community outreach.

Over the past 19 years, KHEIR has evolved into one of the pillars of the Los Angeles Koreatown community. The KHEIR Center provides a range of health and social services to limited- and non-English-speaking immigrant, indigent, disabled and elderly residents of Southern California. We provide programs that are catered specifically to the linguistic and cultural needs of our community, with services offered in English, Spanish and Korean. The only full-time community clinic in the United States that targets a Korean-speaking population, KHEIR was recently designated as the central site for Korean and Korean American cancer studies by the Asian American Network for Cancer Awareness Research Training.

Our agency’s success is built on community support from numerous individuals who have generously donated professional expertise and in-kind services, time and financial contributions. Interns and volunteers are critical to our organization and as summer approaches, we hope that you will join our efforts to bring low-cost, quality health and human services to people in need.

This is an exciting and rewarding time to work at KHEIR. We anticipate completing the renovation of spaces on the second floor of 3727 W. 6th Street (the KOA Building) that will permit the consolidation and expansion of KHEIR’s Health and Social Service Departments. This integration will also enable KHEIR to improve service to our Korean and Latino community in Koreatown and the greater Los Angeles Area.

One of many health and education fairs organized by staff, interns and volunteers.

KHEIR’s Social Services Department currently provides enrollment assistance for basic health and human services such as Medi-Cal, Healthy Families, Healthy Kids and SSI. Our community clinic provides the full range of biomedical and alternative treatment options. Basic biomedical services include general check-ups, STD testing, vaccine administration, nutritional programs, health diagnosis and more. Alternative treatment includes two forms of acupuncture, auricular seed/ki therapy (available on-site), and referrals to traditional whole body needling. We also operate two adult day health care centers for frail and developmentally disabled adults in Koreatown and the South Bay. With your help, we can ensure the best quality care to our clients. We welcome applicants of all interests, backgrounds and fields.

Become an intern or volunteer and give back to our community. Please fax a resume and cover letter to (213) 427-4008. All further inquiries should be directed to Andres Lee at (213) 427-4000, ext. 101.
