NBC reporter Kyung Lah spoke at the 2005 Leadership Advocacy Program’s closing ceremony on Feb. 19 at the Radisson Wilshire Plaza Hotel in Koreatown. She spoke to leaders about domestic and dating violence in the Korean American community and some challenges that leaders can face while working as advocates. She encouraged them to continue their work, educating their peers and empowering victims.

Fighting Fire With Knowledge

The Readiness for School Program invited firemen from Los Angeles Fire Station No. 31 to educate Korean Baptist Church Preschool about fire safety and hazards. The firefighters instructed the kids on how to crawl in a burning building and to roll on the ground if they catch on fire. They were also told not to hide in obscure places, such as under the bed, because it would make it more challenging for firefighters to reach them. The kids enjoyed listening to the firefighters talk about the different gear and equipment they use, but they couldn’t wait for their favorite part: the fire truck tour!
